Welcome to the American Primrose Society

Bringing Primula enthusiasts together since 1941

The full name of our organization is 'The American Primrose, Primula, and Auricula Society', commonly referred to as 'The American Primrose Society'.  We are an international group of Primula enthusiasts. Some members are academics with special expertise in the genus Primula; some are collectors and hybridizers; others are general gardeners who are fascinated by the wide variety of primulas available.  With more than 450 species ranging from tiny European alpines to the stately 'candelabras' of Asia, there is a primula for everyone.

Announcements

♦ It's time to start thinking of the next SEED EXCHANGE! Please save some of your seed to donate.  The deadline for donations this year (2010) is October 31st.

♦ Remember that if you are a donor there is a more generous limit on the amount of seed you may purchase.  See the list of seed that was available last time, and whet your appetite for the coming Exchange!  Details will be posted in the fall.  If you intend to donate seed, please read the section 'How to Donate', and remember to keep the seed cool to maintain its viability.

Click here to print a FORM to accompany your seeds.

♦ Some areas of this website are available only to members.  Members will need to register with their REAL names to access these areas.  Members, please note that you do not need to remember the password which you received ages ago for the old website.  Simply make up your own username and password when you register!   If you are not a member, join us and receive all the benefits of our membership!  See 'What's New' for more information.

♦ The National Show was held at Tower Hill Botanic Gardens, Boylston, MA, hosted by the New England Chapter - April 30 - May 2, 2010.  Photos are posted in our Photo Gallery section, and you can now find the show report under Showing Primula > National Show, page 2.

Latest addition to the website...
Double Primroses

The following is an extract from The Primulas of Europe by John Macwatt, pages 30-31, published by Country Life, London, in 1923.  Any errors in capitalization etc. are the product of the original author.  The double primroses which Macwatt lists here have probably all disappeared by now, but may be of historical interest.  Note the advice on double green primroses at the end.
